Home Generator Installation guidelines:
The package prices offered are for the basic purchase and installation of residential back-up generators. Although many units are sold and installed at these prices, the actual price of your unit will depend upon other factors that will be verified before installation.
The package comes in two major components—the generator and the automatic transfer switch (ATS). These two components must be located according to your home’s layout, and certain circumstances will dictate their location. The generator must be connected to the natural gas meter or to an etiquette-size gas line for its fuel supply. It’s a good idea to keep this distance as short as possible for fuel-line sizing and, more importantly, cost. The ATS must be connected to the existing electrical supply panel or electric meter and, again, the shorter the distance, the better and more cost-effective the generator installation will be. Additionally, the generator and the ATS must be interconnected with electrical lines for controls, battery chargers, and service feeders. The utilities in most homes are in close proximity, but in some cases they’re not. This doesn’t usually present a problem, but it does generally add to the cost of the home generator installation.
Keep in mind that there are several different ways to install a unit. NORTHSHORE POWER ELECTRIC takes into consideration all aspects of different installation possibilities in order to keep your overall costs within your budget. We offer answers to every situation and accept guidance for what you want. The final layout decision is yours to make, as we want you to have the perfect solution for your standby power needs.
Please be aware that most municipalities require a permit for a natural gas standby generator installation. This is the responsibility of the homeowner. However, we will be more than happy to acquire one for you. The additional cost, which depends upon the municipality you live in, will be passed on to the customer.
Home Generator Installation procedures: Generator installations are performed Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM. A few days prior to your installation, our office will contact you to confirm the time and date. Generator installations are performed year round with the exceptions of heavy rain or snowfall. Cold temperatures are no concern.
Prior to the home generator installation, a master electrician will go over the installation plans with the home owners, reviewing videos, pictures, and notes, and answering any questions you may have. Our installers were shoe covers while inside your home.
The generator installation chicago team consists of two electricians and one gas pipe fitter. Between 11:30 and 12:00 noon they will take a 30-minute lunch break before finishing the installation. Once all work is completed, we will clean the work area of debris and haul it away. Once this is done, the master electrician will go over the operation of the standby system and will answer any questions you might have. Then, we will simulate a real power outage to test your new generator.
Finally, we will enter the generator and transfer switch information into our system so that our technicians will have it available 24/7 if needed. Your generator warranty will then be activated.
For air cooled generators, the entire process takes one day or less from start to finish.
